Poussière Tu Seras

I'm don't speak a lot of French... well, not any. But if you do, you might be interested in this. Sam Millar's French translation of The Darkness of Bones is due out next week. And here's the snazzy cover. C'est fantastique, or something. Click on the image to get a proper look.

Sacrebleu.

ooh that is nice. they're just so much classier than us the French aren't they? well except for the time I had a horse burger in Marseille...

Great, but I am not quite getting why Adrian has the French down and you don't, Gerard. Wasn't it a compulsory part of your Northern Irish education?

Of course, if you said that your French was akin to my Spanish--also compulsory for more years than I care to confess--I might just understand. I'm not proud of it, but I wouid understand.

And I have no idea what that title says, except that it's something 'you' will be. Or are, maybe.

Poussière, not Poussire.
Dust you will be, or in other words to dust you will return.
Cheers
Marco

My 2 v-words are perth and friction.

Thanks, Marco. Interesting changes in the meaning of the title between English and French.

Friction and Perth, eh? I suppose Friction and Melbourne would have too conclusively revealed the word vericator as omniscient.

Guys - Glad you can have these conversations without my input. Internet's still down at work, so I can't come here at lunch and coffee break to participate as much as I'd like.

Adrian - Have you tried kangaroo? I had it in Spain. Wasn't that fussed.

Seana - Yeah, because I went to a catholic school I was allowed to take Irish as my compulsory language. So I dropped Spanish and French when I was 14, then Irish at 16. Can't remember much of any of them. I'm not so good at languages.

Marco - I knew I could depend on you! Thanks.

Geez--still no internet? What kind of priorities does this company you work for have, anyway?

As for languages, they do seem to rev up a notch when you actually need to use them. I'm sure all your French will come back to you when you're over there on your book tour.

Seana - I know! It's like the frickin' dark ages. Waiting for them to confiscate my computer and hand me a typewriter.

Mmmmmmmmm, French book tour, gaaaaarrrrrghh.

Was that 'Gaaarrrgghhh' you working on your French accent?

Well, maybe it's not accidental. There was some study done recently about how long it takes people to get back on task after they've gone on the internet for something, and it's something like ten minutes for them to entirely refocus. And I can well believe it. I'm at home today, but I am supposed to be organizing myself to move, and you can imagine how tempting a little post here and there can be in the circumstance. Well, maybe you can't--you seem to be pretty good about self-discipline. Doubtless all that kung fu training.

Adrian, what kind of wine does one drink with one's burger de cheval?

Seana - The Gaaaarrrrrghhh was meant to be a Homer Simpson impression. I couldn't find a youtube clip to illustrate it.

RE your internet/concentration info. I actually can imagine. Sadly, my discipline has been declining in the last year. But I plan to get it back. Going to get a decent exercise routine on the go, eat healthier and write more.

I'm starving, though. Dinner was like four hours ago.

I had a folder of Simpsons sound filed on my computer at work. If I remember, I'll send you a link. If you're in a fix before then, though, just say: "Dough...nuts" while letting your tongue loll out of your mouth.

Peter - Great stuff. That'll do nicely.

Drooling is optional ... which gives a great idea for a country/bluegrass song: "Drooling Banjos."

Peter, I thought you said you didn't write country music.

Gerard, well, that's it then. Wholesome, balanced living always triumphs, doesn't it? Next thing you know, you'll be jogging on your lunch break and even when the internet comes back to your workplace, it will hold no allure at all. I guess I should just say nice to have known you now, while you can still be bothered to read here.

Seana, I write the titles; someone else writes the songs.

That's why you and Adrian should collaborate. Come to think of it, Gerard here was in a band. It didn't sound very country-western, but sometimes those heavy-metal lyrics, sung without amplication of course, might pass for country, right? No--straying into the realms of ignorance once again.

Peter Rozovsky said...

Ah, just call it alternative or better, alt, and it'll pass muster. We'll call our band The Eejits.

Peter - I quite like The Feckin' Eejits.

Nah, we wouldn't be able to get reputable gigs with a name like that, and the desire to be outrageous lasts until one has to pay one's bills. How about the F.E.s?

Even the v-word-maker wants us to cut a record, at least of the old-fashioned kind: waxings.

I'd go hear a band called Poussiere Tu Seras, I think.

(Sorry, don't know how to do the backward accent thing here.)

Okay, this is creeping me out. My v word is 'vultures'. Not vulturs, not voltures--vultures. Dust you will be, indeed. Although vultures is actually more apropos of 'The Darkness of Bones'.
