Peter Rozovsky - Check These Out
Pete from Detectives Beyond Borders asked me to recommend a few titles that he'll be able to pick up when he takes a holiday here in the near future. So, in no particular order, some recommendations that aren't available in the states just yet.
The Lost Chord - Tony Bailie
Woundlicker - Jason Johnson
Orpheus Rising - Colin Bateman
Bloodstorm - Sam Millar
Yours Confidentially - Garbhán Downey
The Semantics of Murder - Aifric Campbell
I'll leave it at that. Don't want the man to go over his baggage allowance.

When you visit the bookstore, may your wallet be full, may your shopping bag be fuller, and may the wind always be at your back when you return to your car or the bus. Many thanks!

American Airlines just announced a $15 surcharge for the first checked bag, so I'm not sure baggage "allowances" are germane anymore.
Linkmeister - bloody thieving bastards. Everything's too expensive these days. Except books. Books are still quite cheap.

Not in Australia, alas.
I bought the Yiddish Policeman's Union yesterday, after vainly searching for it used for the last month. Twenty six dollars for a trade paperback! When I came to the UK in June I was looking for a plane book, I finally decided on Arthur and George but I balked at the price: 28 dollars for a trade pbk! Again I had to suck it up and buy it. Incidentally in New Zealand it's even worse. At Wellington aiport they were selling Lonely Planet New Zealand for 48 dollars!
It's a bloody scandal and I've now ordered all my reading lists from the library well in advance.
Sorry for the moan but I needed to vent.
A...
And I do realize that no one will ever read this, but still its bloody ridiculous.
Yeah, the trade-paperback phenomenon makes want to paraphrase Mick Jagger: "Don't you know book prices are going up, up, up, up, up?"
The weak U.S. dollar and high European book prices have economists forecasting deficits in my budget through early autumn.

Adrian - Jaysus, that's wild! No wonder you're using the library.

Dang, I just realized that I bought not too many but too few books in Belfast and Dublin. I forgot to look for a couple on this list. Guess I'll have to come back.

Peter - Yeah, man. Come back.
I look forward to reading your thoughts on the Irish purchases. Especially the Belfast ones.
